The fifth and final edition of the second series of lectures will be held in Athens, London, Shanghai and Singapore on 29 May.

In Athens, the lecture will focus on maritime arbitration. Jon Elvey, maritime arbitrator and mediator, will talk about the best ways to prepare and present your case, and how to deal with risks and pitfalls. Jon was the managing partner of Ince & Co’s Piraeus office for many years and was with the firm for nearly 40 years as a litigator. Now on the other side of the table, Jon will talk about matters from both sides.

Athens | 29 May | 18.30
Jonathan Elvey, LMAA Arbitrator

In London, Shangai and Singapore, the focus will shift to China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative. The lecture will take a dive into the two trillion dollar OBOR initiative led by China which is transforming global trade and is anticipated to dramatically impact areas covering; 70% of the global population, 75% of known energy reserves and 55% of global GNP.

After the initial, multi-billion dollar investments and development of major infrastructure that’s already been seen along the OBOR maritime routes, there can be no doubt of the intention but what will the impact be and where will it most dramatically be felt, what does OBOR mean for shipping markets and who will be the beneficiaries of this truly awesome long term project?
