The Baltic Exchange is the world's only independent source of maritime market information for the trading and settlement of physical and derivative contracts.

Our International Community

Our international community of over 4,700 encompasses the world's maritime interests including the dry bulk, tanker, gas and container shipping markets.  Members include shipowners, shipbrokers and charterers as well as maritime lawyers, arbitrators, P&I Clubs and other shipping associations.  Each member commits to a code of business conduct - the Baltic Code -  summed up by the motto “our word our bond.”

A significant proportion of the world’s ship chartering and Sale & Purchase business is negotiated and handled by members of the Baltic Exchange.

We add value to our members’ businesses through supporting services such as escrow, dispute resolution, networking opportunities and education.

We have regional offices in Singapore, Shanghai, Athens, Stamford and Houston.

Daily freight market information

The Baltic Exchange is the world's leading source of independent maritime market data. Our information is used by shipbrokers, owners & operators, traders, financiers and charterers as a reliable and independent view of the dry bulk, tanker, gas, container and air freight markets.

Our indices and assessments are used as a settlement tool for freight derivative trades, for benchmarking physical contracts and as a general indicator of the freight markets’ performance. Our comprehensive information services cover voyage and timecharter rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize bulk carriers; Worldscale and timecharter equivalent rates for VLCC, suezmax, aframax and MR tankers; timecharter rates for LPG and LNG vessels; container freight rates; air cargo rates; as well as forward assessments, sale and purchase values, OPEX assessments and ship recycling prices; market reports and fixtures.

'“Our Word Our Bond” is at the heart of what the Baltic Exchange and its global membership stands for. This ethos is embedded in the Baltic Code.'
