The Baltic Exchange is taking precautionary steps in London and Singapore to ensure a normal service during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Since 10 February half the Singapore team has been working from home and the other half in the office on an alternating basis. This measure is now being implemented in London. Our daily benchmark services will continue to remain unaffected and will be published as normal throughout the working week. Our risk mitigation measures are detailed in our Guide to Market Benchmarks which includes a business continuity and disaster recovery plan.

An important part of the Baltic Exchange’s work is organising events, meetings and training. We have already taken the precautionary measure of postponing the Baltic Irish Night and we will continue to review the viability of running larger scheduled events including the Chairman’s Cocktail Party (13 May). Our Baltic Academy courses will continue to be run as scheduled, unless otherwise advised.

Our London membership, catering and meeting facilities remain open. We have provided sanitiser in all public areas and the usual common sense advice remains the same at the Baltic Exchange as everywhere else: regular hand washing with hot water and self-isolation for those who have travelled back from parts of mainland China, Iran, Italy or South Korea in the last 14 days.

The Baltic has not had any reports of illness among either the staff at its London or Singapore offices or tenants in London.

We will continue to monitor conditions carefully and make adjustments as appropriate based on developing conditions and available information.
