Member Death and Funeral Notices
Philip Embiricos
Long standing Baltic Exchange member Philip Embiricos died peacefully in Paris on 20 November 2021, aged 78.
Mr Philipp Alexander Embiricos-Coumoundouros, became a Baltic member in 1979, he was a Director of Embiricos Shipbrokers UK, served as President of BIMCO from 2007-2009, and was for many years on the Executive Committee of Intertanko as well as Lloyds Register Technical Committee. A qualified naval architect, he was well known on the shipping conference circuit offering great insight to the technical and commercial value of ships, always thinking ahead as to the consequences of what the next regulation would bring to the market. He was a knowledgeable authority on the workings of the Panama Canal, so much so he wrote a book published in 2006 “The Panama Canal and Its Expansion”. His passion for the industry will be remembered as will his smile when he challenged those less informed offering their unqualified opinions.
He is survived by his wife Nitzia, his daughters Nitzia Logothetis and Adriana Embiricos-Coumoundouros and his grandchildren.
