On Wednesday the 28 September The Baltic Fly Fishing Society held it's first ever official group outing! Members congregated at The Greyhound on the Test in Stockbridge, Hants. Some for dinner the night before and others joining for breakfast. Fully laden with FEB's we then made our way to Marsh Court, which is undoubtedly one of the best venues on the River Test for a team of like minded anglers to fish together. The day was organised by Mr Ben Few Brown of www.thecountryagent.co.uk and supported by the Baltic Exchange, we were also spoiled with a lunch on the riverbank organised by The Greyhound on the Test. Good quality fishing tackle was available to borrow, for those not bringing their own.

Marsh Court has five long beats, with two on the main river and three on carriers (smaller river channels originally cut to irrigate the Test Valley which has a rich agricultural history). This gave us a perfect mix of fishing for both beginners and experienced anglers and a fun way to end the dry fly season; with all but one of the team hooking up with multiple fish. Notably Anthony Zavos of The Baltic and Will Luther of Arrow both brought Brown Trout of around four pounds a piece to the bank and the day's biggest fish, a Rainbow Trout of just under eight pounds fell prey to Duncan Dunn of SSY.

We sincerely hope that there are many more fly fishers in the Baltic community and that they will reach out to duncandunn@ssy.co.uk to join our society and come on future outings. Prospective members will be interested to learn that The Baltic FFS are also eligible to join Lloyds Flyfishing Society LFS which has an enviable list of locations available for fishing at surprisingly reasonable rates.

The next date to look out for is The LFS Annual Dinner on Thursday 3rd November, at the Honourable Artillery Company's City Headquarters - details to follow!
