The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is offering a Virtual Diploma in International Maritime Arbitration diploma starting 17 November 2021. Baltic Exchange members are eligible for a 10% discount on the fee.
With specific international maritime arbitration themes and covering legislation in the APAC region and England and Wales, the Diploma is split into three parts:

Part 1: Law, Practice and Procedure of International Maritime Arbitration which looks at the legal and practical framework of international maritime arbitration

Part 2: Law of Obligations which covers:

  • Relevant principles in the law of tort and the law of contract in the context of how disputes may arise and be resolved.
  • Elements of the law of obligations that affect matters in civil and commercial disputes in a variety of different jurisdictions.

Part 3: Evidence, Decision Making and Award Writing on International Maritime Arbitration focuses on the processes followed by an arbitrator in:

  • Defining the issues that have to be decided by an award.
  • Dealing with the submissions made by the parties.
  • Analysing the appropriate law.
  • Evaluating the evidence.
  • Applying the law to that evidence.
  • Arriving at a conclusion.
  • Writing a final, reasoned and enforceable award.
