The Baltic Exchange held its Salcombe Yawl Racing weekend in early October to help raise funds for RNLI Salcombe on the south coast of England. Yawl boat owners kindly gave up their time and expensive boats for Baltic staff and others to crew in a series of races over the weekend.

The event was blessed with fabulous weather and favourable winds, which led to a fantastic day of competitive racing and a rather more comical Le Mans start off Fisherman's Beach, opposite the RLNI Salcombe lifeboat station.

The weekend raised £3,750 for the Salcombe Lifeboat staion. If you would like to make a donation to add to that figure, please contact Mike Robson.

You can check out some photos from the event here.

The Baltic Exchange has a proud history of supporting lifeboats. Salcombe is one of 238 lifeboat stations dotted around the UK and Ireland and depends on donations to maintain its rescue service. Our members have provided financial support to lifeboats at Salcombe for more than 150 years.

The 25 kt Tamar Class All Weather Lifeboat The Baltic Exchange III, which is stationed at Salcombe, has saved countless lives since its launch in 2008. The boat recently had an extensive refit and returned to service in March 2021. Baltic members raised over half a million pounds towards this vessel and this latest sailing event is another amazing event that continues that effort.
