Baltic Exchange hosts successful Tanker Forum at Bahri Week 2024 in Dubai

The Baltic Exchange welcomed around 140 industry leaders and maritime professionals to the Sofitel Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai on 12 November 2024 for its annual Tanker Forum, which took place as part of Bahri Week. The event brought together experts and stakeholders from across the sector to discuss the latest market trends, regulatory updates and future developments in tanker and gas shipping.

The day kicked off with an update from Janet Sykes, Baltic Exchange's Chief Commercial Officer, who provided valuable insights into the Baltic Exchange's latest initiatives, including the introduction of new assessments for the chemical and vegetable oil sectors. Following this, Matthew Cox, Benchmark Production Head at Baltic Exchange, led an interactive discussion on the Baltic Indices, offering an in-depth look at their production and the critical role they play in shaping the tanker market.
The forum continued with a compelling panel discussion on the implications of new emission regulations, including the IMO and FuelEU initiatives. Moderated by Martin-Crawford Brunt, Emissions Lead at Baltic Exchange, the panel featured Jasmin Fichte, Managing Partner at Fichte & Co; Jaideep Vohra, Fleet and Drydocking Director at Bahri Ship Management; and Martin Rowe, Vice President at Anglo-Eastern Ship Management. The session provided attendees with key insights into the regulatory landscape and its impact on the global tanker industry.
Ioannis Papadimitriou, Lead Freight Analyst at Vortexa, concluded the morning's sessions with a comprehensive presentation on the fundamentals of freight and commodity markets, focusing on both tankers and gas.
Following a productive networking lunch, attendees had the opportunity to engage in further discussions, making the event a key platform for innovation and collaboration in the tanker and gas shipping sectors.
