As one of the biggest events in the annual shipping calendar, this year's Singapore Maritime Week once again saw some of the industry's biggest names and faces gather at the world's leading maritime hub to discuss a number of major talking points impacting the maritime sector, with decarbonisation and carbon emissions at the top of the agenda.

Baltic Exchange was once again pleased to make its presence felt throughout the week with a series of exciting events designed to bring together Members, colleagues and friends to discuss the role the Baltic Exchange can play in improving our industry.

To kick start the week, the Baltic Exchange Racket Club held its first-ever padel event in Singapore, following a tremendously successful event in London late last year. More than 30 participants of various ages and abilities took part, with Charlie Haddock and Ryan McAnearney from Gibson Shipbrokers taking the championship trophy home following a hard fought victory.

The following day saw the return of the Baltic Exchange Freight Forum from the SGX Auditorium, which looked into the dynamics and market outlook for the dry bulk, tanker and gas freight markets. More than 120 people attended the forum, proving once again the popularity of the Baltic Exchange at shipping's major events globally.

The forum was led by Jin Yu Cheong, Head of Baltic Exchange Asia, and opened by Mark Jackson, CEO of Baltic Exchange, who talked about the continued work of Baltic Exchange and its offering to the industry.

Matthew Cox, Head of Benchmark Production, and David Currie, Senior Feight Assessor, then took to the stage to provide critical and detailed insights on how the Baltic Index's are produced.

Atilla Widnell, Founder and Managing Director at Navigate Commodities, then led a session on 'Monitoring the Decarbonisation of Global Steel Industries through Real Time Satellite-based Earth Observation and Maritime Flows', with a particular focus on the dry bulk sector.

Following this, Martin Crawford-Brunt, Emissions Lead from Baltic Exchange, moderated the Carbon Emissions Panel. Speakers included Susana Germino, Chief Sustainability Officer at Swire Shipping/Swire Bulk; Ian Butler, Head of Energy Transition - Shipping at Vitol; and Toby Forrest, Head of Chartering and Shipping Operations at Pavilion Energy.

The final event of the week was an official Panellist Drinks Reception. More than 55 people gathered at Barouv Rooftop Bar in Singapore to enjoy an evening of food and drink, as well as the opportunity to kick back, relax and enjoy connecting at one of shipping's leading locations. Most importantly, with the event taking place on the roof, it gave participants the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful evening after what had been a very rainy day in Singapore.
